Golf Magazine Promotes David DeNunzio to Editor in Chief

They travel from one pristine location to another, pencil in an annual stopover in Augusta and have had the opportunity this season to trade in Sergio Garcia and John Daly feel-good narratives. Among this group is David DeNunzio (pictured), who has been appointed as the new editor in chief of SI's Golf magazine and golf.com website. He takes over from David Clarke. Here's the memo from Sports Illustrated managing editor Chris Stone to Sports Group staff: David DeNunzio has been appointed editor-in-chief of GOLF and GOLF.com following the decision of David Clarke to retire after 12 years at the helm of the franchise. He will report to me. DeNunz, as he is popularly known in the office, is formerly managing editor of Instruction and the author of more than 90 cover stories for GOLF, working with 50 different Tour stars. He has been the driving force behind the GOLF Top 100 Teacher franchise, the industry gold standard for instruction. He was the recipient of Time Inc’s MVP Award in 2014 in recognition of his contribution to GOLF Magazine and GOLF.com since arriving at the franchise in 2006. “David is an outstanding journalist who embodies the DNA of the GOLF brand,” David Clarke says. “His understanding of the game, his management of the Top 100 franchise, and his ability to work cross-platform make him the perfect choice to take the GOLF franchise to the next level.” In addition to fortifying GOLF’s place at the top of the instruction space, DeNunz has been a central figure in the digital transformation of the franchise, which underwent a re-design earlier this year that yielded a record traffic month in April and continued success in May, when it enjoyed 39% growth year over year. DeNunz (49), who plays to a handicap of 9, joined GOLF from GOLF TIPS magazine where he was Editor-in-Chief. A member of Essex Golf and Country Club in West Orange, he lives in Montclair, New Jersey with his wife, Caroline, and sons David (9) and Dominick (6). “I’m excited to take the leadership of GOLF at a transformational time for the brand and for the game,” he says. “GOLF is fortunate to have such a fantastic team of hard-working, cross-platform journalists delivering top-quality work every day.” Please join me in congratulating David on this richly deserved new chapter for him and the entire GOLF franchise.
