G/O Media's Editorial Director Resigns Amid Turmoil

Paul Maidment is leaving 'to pursue an entrepreneurial opportunity'

G/O Media’s editorial director resigned today after weeks of turmoil at the publisher.

Over the last few weeks, tension with staffers and management at G/O Media has come to a head. In recent days, executives shuttered Splinter News, told Deadspin to stick to covering sports, fired its editor and its remaining editorial writers quit.

In an email to staff today, Paul Maidment, editorial director of G/O Media, said he was resigning “to pursue an entrepreneurial opportunity.”

“I admire the journalism that you produce and the unique voice that is otherwise missing from mainstream media,” Maidment said in the statement.
