Hearst Magazines has hired fashion publishing vet Carol Smith, the former Elle publisher who was bounced after a short stint at Condé Nast last year, as it prepares for a tougher battle with Condé for fashion ad dollars.
Smith was named vice president, publisher and chief revenue officer at Harper’s Bazaar, making her one of the first big outside hires at Hearst Magazines since David Carey became president of the company about a year ago.
