Facebook Will Match Donations to GlobalGiving for Australian Wildfires Recovery

The company is also giving funds to the Australian Red Cross

Facebook is contributing to recovery efforts from the ongoing wildfires in Australia, pledging to match up to 1 million Australian dollars (nearly $687,000) in donations made to GlobalGiving via its platform, as well as donating 250,000 Australian dollars (roughly $171,700) to the Australian Red Cross.

All donations made via the social network’s Crisis Response pages or its donate button are eligible for matching.

Facebook activated its Safety Check feature Dec. 30 for the fires across New South Wales and Victoria.

The social network said over 19,000 related fundraisers have been created on its platform since November, drawing donations from more than 75 countries to support over 250 nonprofits aiding with the relief and recovery efforts.
