More Than 10 Million People Rang In the New Year With Facebook Live

Usage of the Live With feature tripled December’s daily average

Usage of Facebook Live reached record levels on New Year’s Eve 2016, and New Year’s Eve 2017 provided yet more evidence of how mainstream livestreaming via social networks has become.

Facebook product manager Erin Connolly and engineering manager Kunal Modi announced in a Facebook Media blog post that more than 10 million people livestreamed via Facebook Live Sunday, up 47 percent from the previous year.

The social network introduced its Live With feature for Facebook Live in May, enabling users to invite guests to join their livestreams, and Connolly and Modi said the number of people using the feature on New Year’s Eve was three times the average for a December day.

Facebook also shared the data visualization below, depicting New Year’s Eve livestreaming activity across the globe.

The most-used Reaction during New Year’s Eve Facebook Live videos was Wow, Connolly and Modi wrote, and the top 10 U.S.
