Facebook Lite Is Not Just for Emerging Markets Anymore

The lightweight alternative Android app launched in several developed nations

Facebook introduced its Facebook Lite Android application in June 2015, saying at the time that it was designed for emerging markets and areas with poor connectivity. This week, the app is being rolled out in more developed markets as a lightweight alternative to the social network’s flagship Android app.

Facebook confirmed that Facebook Lite is now available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, the U.K., France, Germany, Ireland and New Zealand.

Facebook Lite reached 100 million monthly users nine months after its launch, in March 2016, and it topped the 200 million mark in February 2017.

The social network also introduced a lightweight version of its Messenger app, Messenger Lite, in October 2016.
