There Are Now Twice as Many Facebook Lite Users as There Were Last March

The low-bandwidth alternative to the Facebook app now has 200 million monthly active users

Facebook Lite, a low-bandwidth alternative to the social network’s flagship Android application for users with poor connectivity, topped 200 million monthly active users.

The app has doubled its user base since last March, when it topped the 100 million MAU mark.

Facebook Lite debuted in January 2015 in Bangladesh, Vietnam, Nigeria, Nepal, South Africa, Sudan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, and it was officially introduced that June, with several more countries being added.

Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged the milestone in a Facebook post, writing:

We built a light version of Facebook for people with low-bandwidth internet.
