Facebook Created a Privacy and Data Use Business Hub

Its Clear History feature will debut ‘in the coming months’

Facebook marked Data Privacy Day Monday by introducing a new Privacy and Data Use Business Hub, a one-stop shop for resources that businesses can use to ensure that they are protecting people’s information while on the Facebook platform.

The Privacy and Data Use Business Hub contains information on topics including ads, privacy principles, how data is used in Facebook’s ad products and how to understand regulations such as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation.

Facebook chief privacy officer Erin Egan said in a Newsroom post that the Clear History feature CEO Mark Zuckerberg initially promised last May will be rolled out “in the coming months.”

Clear History will enable people to see the information Facebook receives about their activity on other apps and websites and to disconnect that information from their accounts.

Egan also said people on the social network will see prompts over the next two weeks about its Privacy Checkup feature, which enables them to review their privacy settings.

Privacy Checkup has been available to Facebook users since September 2014, and it currently enables people to examine their settings for who can see their posts, information available on their profiles, who can see that information and applications and websites that they log into with Facebook.

Egan wrote, “While Data Privacy Day is a good time to think about protecting your information, we’re continuing to work throughout the year to improve the privacy controls we offer on Facebook and better communicate about how we protect people’s information. Last year, we made our privacy settings easier to find, improved our tools for accessing and deleting your information and published our Privacy Principles. This year we’ll do more to explain how Facebook uses people’s data and provide people with more transparency and control.”
