Bing Providing Instant Casual Gaming Experience

Microsoft has done a massive overhaul on its popular search engine Bing today with the notable addition of Bing Entertainment which will provide an avenue for users to discover and search for media and games. By integrating easy to access casual games and other media, Microsoft hopes for searchers to stick around longer. Microsoft has been active in proliferating Bing's features, recently adding the ability to search Facebook fan page content and popular Facebook feed as well as incorporating Twitter. Bing's games features will provide both hardcore and casual users access to new features easily through the site. Casual gamers, archetypal 35 yr old moms, can search for and access 100 of the most popular casual games like Bejeweled, Blackjack, Zuma's Revenge, Bubble Town, Luxor and more through Bing and play instantly. The search is pretty robust and accurate and typing in names of titles makes it fairly easily to find them. Bing is also providing goodies for hardcore console gamers in the forms of walkthroughs, reviews and game cheats. "We did travel, health, shopping and local last year," explains senior VP Yusuf Mehdi. "Now the Web has unlocked all of this entertainment, but for many people they are spending too much time looking for what they want to do instead of enjoying it. We are trying to remove all of those hurdles that block you from enjoying it. You should be able to watch a show, listen to online music, or play a game with a few clicks." Information about all the games is pulled from IGN's 35,000 + aggregated game database including some old and most new games. Searching for games yields a game info box that appears above non-sponsored search results through which players can access the game info page. In a community blog post, Microsoft said it integrated the database because "in the gaming realm, people go to the web for a few key tasks." As for the integrated casual games, the company said the new feature provides convenience as well as the guarantee to players that the games "are actually games and not malware."
