Apple acquires HTML5 web app firm Particle

Apple has bought web app firm Particle, a company that focuses on building HTML5 web applications and marketing projects, according to a report from CNET.

The San Francisco-based company specializes in HTML5 and rendering engine Webkit. In the past it has worked Google, Motorola, Amazon, Yahoo, Sony and Apple. The company has also created other “labs” projects including the video status update service Robo.to and video interview service Intervue.me.

Sources believe Apple completed the Particle acquisition late last month, with some, but not all of Particle’s employees staying to work at Apple.
