Mobile data and analytics company App Annie released its Q1 Global App Market Index, which analyzed the top mobile applications worldwide in the first quarter of 2020.
App Annie found that, on Android, the average time spent in mobile apps each week increased 20% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2020.
Google Play app downloads also increased during the quarter, reaching 22.5 billion (an increase of 5% year-over-year). Similarly, iOS downloads via the iTunes App Store increased 15% year-over-year in Q1 2020, reaching more than 9 billion downloads in total.
Looking at iOS and Android data combined, TikTok was the most-downloaded app in Q1, with WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Facebook Messenger rounding out the top five.
In terms of monthly active users, however, Facebook took the top spot, followed by WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, WeChat and Instagram in the top five.
