AOL News Ditches Original Content

HuffPo Takes Reins in Merger

Amid swirling rumors that AOL News laid off upwards of 750 employees following a merger with Huffington Post, Mediaite is reporting from a "credible source" that the company will entirely fold its original content operations. Many expected a drastic shrink in AOL's editorial department, however closing the operation altogether was unexpected.

AOL CEO Tim Armstrong and Arianna Huffington announced the merger earlier this year, raising questions about how the new partnership would take form.  AOL users are demographically more conservative, while HuffPo has a more liberal audience.
