The Los Angeles Times reported that Facebook will work with “Idol” producers FremantleMedia to provide viewers with more detailed information about voting during live performances on the show, including breaking out votes by demographic or geographic categories.

As part of the initiative, Facebook users who agree may see their profile pictures appear alongside the contestants they are supporting, according to the newspaper.

Facebook had already been working with Fox and FremantleMedia to help verify that ballots cast online and via the show’s mobile application were from actual viewers, and not automated software programs, the Times reported.
