While we have a list of weekly new stories for games as well as our list of weekly videos, we thought it would be entertaining to compile a list of some of the top social media new stories of the past week that weren't that spectacular ... at least for the people in the story. Here's our list of 5 social media fails of the past week. Attorney General Mark Shurtleff Execution by firing squad seems so two centuries ago. Yet apparently, it still happens on rare occasion in the United States. Right before convicted killer Ronnie Lee Gardner was put down for good, Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff took to Twitter: "I just gave the go ahead to Corrections Director to proceed with Gardner's execution. May God grant him the mercy he denied his victims." Really? Does something so barbaric (irrespective of your religious views) and "final" really have a place on Twitter? Twitter Give the microblogging platform a big fat red card for failing to have the capacity to handle the World Cup. I've experienced more Fail Whales than the Algerian soccer has scored goals. BP CEO Tony Hayward Let's be honest, every fail list on the planet currently includes embattled BP CEO Tony Hayward. I can forgive the company for cutting corners and single-handedly destroying the Gulf of Mexico. What I can't forgive is Hayward's lame YouTube apology. A slideshow that uses out-of-the-box panning and zooming is the best the company making $6 BILLION a year can do?! (Comments on the video have been disabled, I wonder why.) Facebook Friends of Joran van der Sloot Guilty by association? Hell yeah! Apparently the alleged double murderer had too many friends on Facebook to display. Since you can never take a psychopath at face value, we're not sure if this is true. But for everyone who is not named Nancy Grace that was connected to van der Sloot on a social network - shame on you. Joran was also a member of the "If I could turn back the time' group on Facebook. Be warned, if you are ever accused of anything, your social network activity will be taken out of context. Tread lightly. MySpace At a time when you would think the rapidly declining social network would step up their game and cash in on the Facebook privacy fall out, the debacle known as Myspace has found a way to fall further into the abyss. First the CEO Owen Van Natta gets axed and now co-president Jason Hirschhorn packs up his bags and heads back to New York. MySpace currently receives approximately one-fifth the traffic of Facebook.
