Yesterday, Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger announced that he was promoting John Skipper to president of ESPN and co-chairman of the Disney Media Networks. Skipper, who first joined Disney 22 years ago, has spent the past six years as ESPN’s head of content across platforms from TV to Web.

Skipper will be replacing George Bodenheimer, who has worked at ESPN 1981 and has been its president for the past 13 years. Disney said in its announcement that Bodenheimer wanted to step back from day-to-day management duties but plans to remain with ESPN as executive chairman.
