Zynga Acquires Social Game Developer Newtoy
Zynga has acquired Newtoy, the McKinney, Texas–based mobile game developer behind a series of popular iPhone titles called Games with Friends. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Newtoy, which was founded in 2008 by brothers Paul and David Bettner, will now become the Zynga with Friends Studio. Paul Bettner will stay on as the studio’s vp and general manager, with David Bettner serving as studio director. Newtoy currently has 23 employees.
According to David Ko, Zynga’s svp of mobile, Newtoy will help Zynga in its push to become the dominant social gaming company on all screens.
