YouTube to Bring Shorts to the U.S. in Beta

Its answer to TikTok, Instagram Reels debuted in India last December

Shorts, YouTube’s answer to TikTok and Instagram Reels, will be coming to the U.S. in beta form in the coming weeks.

The Google-owned video site began beta-testing Shorts in India last December, and chief product officer Neal Mohan said in a blog post that the number of Indian channels using Shorts has more than tripled, and the feature’s player is being viewed over 3.5 billion times per day worldwide.

YouTube vice president of product management Chris Jaffe said in a blog post when the feature was initially revealed last September, “User-generated short videos were born on YouTube starting with our first upload, a short 18-second video called ‘Me at the Zoo.’
