YouTube Replaces Thumbnails With Video Chapters for Some of Its Search Results

Content in other languages with auto-translation was also added when local-language fare is limited

YouTube responded to users’ requests for more context on videos in search results by replacing thumbnail images with video chapters from videos, when applicable, giving viewers a more detailed picture of topics covered in those videos and enabling them to choose content that best fits their needs.

Those video chapters are time-stamped and enable people to jump directly to the sections of videos that interest them most.

YouTube users on desktop already had access to snippets of content from vides on the search page, and a version of this feature is being added to the Google-owned video site’s mobile applications, as well.

The company shared the following example in a blog post Tuesday: “Let’s say you’re looking for a good sourdough recipe and want to work on your kneading technique.
