The International Fact-Checking Network teamed up with WhatsApp on the “Spread the Facts Grant Program,” which will award direct grant funding to organizations using the Meta-owned messaging application to launch, innovate and scale their efforts to combat misinformation.

Up to $800,000 in grant funding will go to as many as 20 recipients, which will be awarded either $25,000 or $50,000.

The organizations selected will also receive exposure at the IFCN’s annual global fact-checking summit, Global Fact 10, in 2023, giving them the opportunity to connect with experts across the integrity ecosystem.

Applicants must be signatories to the IFCN code of principles and present projects that aid fact-checkers in establishing their presence on WhatsApp or scaling their existing efforts on the platform, and there are two tracks:

  • Launch, $25,000: Organizations and consortiums seeking to establish their presence and/or increase fact-checking capacity on the WhatsApp Business app.
