WhatsApp Adds 1-to-1 Voice, Video Calls to Desktop App

The Facebook-owned messaging app plans to add group calling at a later date

WhatsApp said Thursday that its desktop application now supports one-to-one voice and video calls.

Just as on the mobile application, voice and video calls are end-to-end encrypted, so WhatsApp cannot hear or see them.

The Facebook-owned messaging app said it is starting out with one-to-one calls on desktop in order to ensure that it delivers a reliable, high-quality experience before expanding the feature to include group voice and video calls sometime down the line.
