Swati Sharma is Vox Media’s new editor in chief. Sharma joins Vox from The Atlantic, where she was managing editor. Sharma takes over from Lauren Williams, who announced in November that she was leaving to launch Capital B, a nonprofit news organization for Black readers.

During her tenure at The Atlantic, Sharma steered the organization’s digital coverage through major events, including the 2020 election, Covid-19 and racial justice protests.

“I’m thrilled to join an institution that has strong values and a crucial mission,” Sharma said in a statement, adding that she is looking forward to “producing work that dissects and illuminates big ideas, challenges long-held perceptions, inspires people to live better lives and fosters the kind of discussion that leads to real change.”
