Twitter expanded its test of downvoting on replies to more Android, iOS and web users globally.

The social network began testing the feature with some iOS users last summer, and it is only available on replies to tweets, not tweets themselves.

Much like dislikes on YouTube, the number of downvotes a tweet reply receives will not be displayed, as Twitter stressed that the goal is to surface the most relevant replies within tweets and foster engagement.

Twitter said in a series of tweets that in early testing of the downvote feature, it found that a majority of people who clicked the down arrow did so because the tweet reply was offensive, irrelevant or both.
