The social network initially discussed Communities at its Analyst Day in February and introduced the first five on iOS and the web last September: astrology, dogs, skincare, sneakers and weather.

New Communities that have been added since include Fashion, Formula 1, R&B Twitter, Roblox, Tech Twitter and Xbox Community.

Communities enable people to tweet to a specific audience, rather than to all of their followers, and although the tweets are public, only members of those Communities can like or reply to them.

Twitter detailed more updates that are coming to Communities in a @HiCommunities thread earlier this month:

  • Communities are currently invite-only or open to everyone, but the social network is working on a request to join option, where administrators and moderators approve or deny requests.
