Twitter detailed several updates to its Twitter API v2 (application-programming interface) with the goal of continuing its mission is to build an open developer platform that serves the public conversation.

The social network unveiled Twitter API v2—the first complete overhaul of its API since 2012—in July 2020, and its official rollout began in August of that year.

Twitter released the first ever official software-development kits for Java and TypeScript/JavaScript, enabling developers to avoid some of the manual processes of writing full requests and simplifying the authentication process.

Academic researchers can tap a new tweet downloader tool, a no-code solution granting them access to the full archive of Twitter data.
