Tumblr Stakes its Claim as the Queerest Place on the Internet

Users are 193% more likely to be LGBTQIA+ compared with other social networks

Tumblr is the queerest place on the internet, and it’s proud of that fact.

The platform released the following statistics this week, citing fourth-quarter-2020 data from GlobalWebIndex:

  • A Tumblr user is 193% more likely to be LGBTQIA+ compared with other social networks.
  • One out of four Tumblr users are LGBTQIA+.
  • 60% of new Tumblr users and 48% of users overall are Generation Z.
  • A Tumblr user is 128% more likely to be LGBTQIA+ than the average internet user.
  • One out of three Gen Z (16 through 24) Tumblr users are LGBTQIA+, double the one out of six in the U.S. who identify as such.
  • A Tumblr user is 202% more likely to be gay or lesbian compared with other social networks.
  • A Tumblr user is 174% more likely to be bisexual compared with other social networks.
  • A Tumblr user is 206% more likely to have an alternative sexuality compared with other social networks.

Tumblr said it is keeping conversation alive with its rollout of The Queerest Place on the Internet, a dedicated space for all things queer, and the platform is encouraging users to share related content with the tags #Tumblr Queer and #Queerest place on the Internet.
