TikTok Forms European Safety Advisory Council

Leaders from academia and civil society will advise the platform on content moderation policies and practices

TikTok introduced the inaugural members of its new European Safety Advisory Council this week.

Head of product policy for Europe, the Middle East and Africa Julie de Bailliencourt said in a blog post, “Safety is the bedrock of our diverse, creative community, which is why our work in this space is never done. We are always reviewing our existing features and policies and innovating to take bold new measures to prioritize safety.”

The European Safety Advisory Council brings together leaders from academia and civil society who will provide TikTok with advice on its content moderation policies and practices and help the platform develop forward-looking policies.

The inaugural members are:

  • Seyi Akiwowo, founder and CEO of newly formed charity Glitch.
