TikTok introduced its first-ever augmented reality effect powered by the LiDAR scanner on Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

LiDAR stands for light detection and ranging.

The effect provides users of the video creation application with a New Year’s Eve-type experience, counting down from five before filling the room where the user is located with AR-generated confetti and a floating 2021.

TikTok said in a tweet, “To ring in 2021, we released our first AR effect on the new iPhone 12 Pro using LiDAR technology, which allows us to create effects that interact with your environment—visually bridging the digital and physical worlds.
