The Weeknd Surges on Spotify Following Super Bowl Halftime Show

Headlining the halftime show at Super Bowl 2021 certainly didn’t hurt The Weeknd on Spotify.

The streaming service said overall streams of The Weeknd shot up nearly 220% on its platform in the U.S. Sunday night and by 72% in the U.K., and in Tampa, Fla., from 11 p.m. to midnight ET on game night, the two top tracks were “Blinding Lights” and “Save Your Tears.”

Tracks by The Weeknd that saw significant streaming gains following the game compared with the previous Sunday included:

  • “House of Balloons/Glass Table Girls,” over 1,140%
  • “Can’t Feel My Face,” more than 340%
  • “I Feel It Coming,” over 300%
  • “The Hills,” more than 235%
  • “Starboy,” over 230%

The top five cities streaming The Weeknd on Spotify over the past year were:

  1. Los Angeles
  2. Chicago
  3. Houston
  4. Dallas
  5. Atlanta
