The UK Creates Big Tech Antitrust Watchdog

The U.K. launched a new regulatory body with the goal of promoting competition among technology companies on Tuesday. 

According to a statement from the U.K. government, the new agency, dubbed the Digital Markets Unit, will “help make sure tech giants such as Facebook and Google cannot exploit their market dominance to crowd out competition and stifle innovation online.”

The U.K. government noted that about 80% of digital advertising spend in the nation in 2019 was spent on Google and Facebook.
