Study: Sites With Tweet Buttons Drive More Mentions

A new study from SEO solutions provider Bright Edge finds that websites using buttons encouraging users to tweet about content drive seven times as many mentions on Twitter as sites that do not.

The study, which analyzed 4 million randomly selected tweets, found sites featuring a tweet button had an average of 27 mentions per site compared to 4 mentions for sites without buttons.

The number of websites offering social links are growing steadily, the study found. Of the top 10,000 websites, 53.6 percent have social links or plugins on their home page driving mentions on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn, compared to 52.8 percent a month ago.

Still, the high percentage of top sites not offering such buttons constitute a “significant untapped opportunity for social media to drive greater marketing exposure for brands,” the study concludes.
