James Murray is retiring from the federal law-enforcement agency after 27 years and joining Snap Inc. as chief security officer, reporting directly to co-founder and CEO Evan Spiegel.

A spokesperson for the company said Murray will start Aug. 1 and help ensure the safety and security of its 5,000-plus employees worldwide.

Murray joined the Secret Service in 1995 as a special agent in its New York field office, conducting cyber-enabled financial crimes investigations and serving as the agency’s representative to the FBI-NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force.
