The return of Reddit’s r/place April Fools’ stunt was anything but a joke, as the 2022 version saw more than 10.4 million Redditors place over 160 million tiles on what started as a blank canvas, compared with more than 1 million users placing roughly 16 million tiles in 2017.

The communal, 1,000-by-1,000-pixel canvas enabled logged-in Redditors to place a tile or pixel of their color choice once every five minutes by tapping or clicking anywhere on the canvas.
