The majority of Americans who responded to a recent survey by Pew Research Center want to see the regulation hammer come down on “Big Tech.”
In a survey of 4,623 U.S. adults conducted from April 12 through 18, Pew found that 56% of respondents believe major technology companies should be regulated more than they currently are, while 68% believe those firms have too much power and influence over the economy.
A similar study by Pew in June 2020 found that 47% of respondents believed there should be more regulation, down slightly from 51% in an earlier study in May 2018.
Pew said in a statement, “There have been increases in support for more regulation across most of the political spectrum, particularly among liberal Democrats, since this question was last asked in June 2020.
