Pew: Americans Want More Regulation of Big Tech Companies

68% of survey respondents believe those firms have too much power and influence

The majority of Americans who responded to a recent survey by Pew Research Center want to see the regulation hammer come down on “Big Tech.”

In a survey of 4,623 U.S. adults conducted from April 12 through 18, Pew found that 56% of respondents believe major technology companies should be regulated more than they currently are, while 68% believe those firms have too much power and influence over the economy.

A similar study by Pew in June 2020 found that 47% of respondents believed there should be more regulation, down slightly from 51% in an earlier study in May 2018.
