This week’s mediaIDEAS onPoint chart shows the forecasted change in U.S. magazine publisher advertising vs circulation revenue.

Over the next 10 years, specifically with the growth of e-reading devices like tablets, e-paper, e-readers and smartphones, advertising revenue will become less predominant for publishers than circulation revenue (e.g. selling single copies, subscriptions, apps, articles). In 2020, circulation revenue will represent close to $19 billion, while advertising revenue about $12.5 billion.
