LinkedIn to Shutter Localized Version of Its Platform for China

LinkedIn said Thursday that it will sunset the localized version of its platform in China, which it debuted in February 2014, due to “a significantly more challenging operating environment and greater compliance requirements.”

The professional network is not bailing on the sizable market, saying that it will roll out standalone jobs application InJobs in China later this year. The app will not have a social feed or a way to share posts or articles,

LinkedIn will also continue to work with businesses in the country to help them create economic opportunity.

Senior vice president of engineering Mokah Shroff explained in a blog post that when LinkedIn decided to proceed in China, it did so knowing that it would have to adhere to the Chinese government’s requirements for internet platforms, and it established a “clear set of guidelines” for if it ever encountered the need to re-evaluate its presence in the country.
