Instagram recently added the ability for users to create selfie stickers that can be used in Stories posts and Direct messages. Rather than being static images, these selfie stickers are animated GIFs. Our guide will show you how to create and use selfie stickers in Instagram Stories.
Note: These screenshots were captured in the Instagram application on iOS.
Step 1: Once you’ve taken or uploaded a photo or video in Stories, tap the Stickers icon at the top of the screen.
Step 2: Tap the “Selfie” sticker.
Step 3: You have multiple options that allow you to create multiple selfie stickers. For instance, you can create a generic selfie sticker that shows your real-world background, or you can replace your background with a colorful layout by tapping the camera window before capturing your sticker (if you keep tapping, you can also switch between color and black-and-white versions of your face). You can also create emoji-themed stickers by tapping the different emoji under the camera window. For instance, tapping the heart eyes emoji will place hearts over your eyes before you create a selfie sticker. Once you’re ready to create a selfie sticker, tap the capture button under the camera window.
Step 4: If you want to use the selfie sticker without saving it for future use, tap the white circle with the black arrow. Or, if you want to save the selfie sticker so you can use it multiple times, tap “Save Sticker.”
If you chose “Save Sticker,” you’ll see your new sticker under the “Saved Stickers” section. Tap it to add it to your post.
From there, you can rotate, resize, and drag the sticker around the screen to best fit your post before sharing it.
