Instagram began rolling out private Stories likes Monday, calling them a “lightweight way” for users to interact with their friends’ Stories.

The Meta-owned platform began testing the feature in January.

Likes on Stories are completely private, and there are no counts. They appear as hearts next to users’ handles in the Story creator’s view sheet.

Instagram said the aim is to enable people to react to Stories without having to send a DM and avoid cluttering DMs.

Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri introduced the new feature in a video Monday.
