Instagram Begins Rolling Out Auto-Generated Captions for Feed Videos

Auto-generated captions are now available for all feed videos on Instagram, and the feature will be turned on by default for creators on the platform.

Instagram said that making it the default setting makes the process of adding captions to content seamless and makes content on its application more accessible to deaf or hard-of-hearing users, as well as people who prefer to consume video with the sound turned off.

The Meta-owned platform added that it noticed creators turning to time-consuming and labor-intensive workarounds such as burning in captions or outsourcing the process, adding that those creators can now spend less time captioning and more time focused on their content.

The captions are rolling out in select languages, with more countries, languages and surfaces to be added in the coming months, and Instagram said it expects its artificial intelligence to continue learning as more people use the feature, which will improve the quality of...
