Instagram said last week that it will begin asking users who have not already shared their birthdays with the platform to do so, in an attempt to protect younger people.

Vice president of youth products Pavni Diwanji said in a blog post last week that Instagram will use the information to create new safety features for younger users and ensure that it provides experiences that are appropriate for each age group.

The move follows July’s policy change of having people under 16 in the U.S.
