Facebook will donate $3 million to partners in Afghanistan and globally to support refugees and humanitarian needs in that country.

The company said the commitment will support: refugee registration and resettlement; protection and evacuation of at-risk individuals; and humanitarian assistance, including food, shelter and health support.

The International Rescue Committee is one of the organizations receiving funds, and it said more than 18 million people in Afghanistan need humanitarian aid, and nearly 500,000 Afghans will flee the country by year-end.
