Facebook rolled out a free Covid-19 Announcements tool this week for eligible government pages in India and the U.S.

Pages for state and local health departments and municipal governments in the U.S. can use the feature, as can those for state health departments in India.

The feature is meant to draw attention to urgent posts on topics related to the pandemic or information about vaccines, and when pages mark those posts as Covid-19 Announcements, the social network will expand their reach so that people in affected communities are more likely to see them, as well as send notifications to those people.

Facebook said Covid-19 Announcements should only be used for posts that are timely, actionable and contain local information, and they must follow the social network’s community standards.
