The public groups experience initially revealed by Facebook last October will be rolled out to all public groups in the coming months, and group administrators can choose to switch their groups over to the new experience, although once this is done, the decision cannot be reversed.

One goal of the new public groups experience is to make it easier for people on the social network to discover, join and participate in those groups.

Users can join public groups without admin approval and, if allowed via admin controls, people can participate in discussions as visitors without joining the group.

Facebook said last October that it was testing Related Discussions in News Feed in cases where someone posted a link or reshared a post from that group, as well as displaying posts from public groups related to users’ interests in the groups tab.
