As recently as 15 years ago, there were two realistic ways to watch television: live in season, or after the season on DVD. Now, with the ubiquity of DVRs and the breadth of VOD, there is a third way, and this has given rise to the time-shifted, in-season viewer. As part of our social TV year-in-review guest post series, two leaders in the space, Tumblr’s Head of Media Sima Sistani and VH1’s VP of On-Air + Multiplatform Creative Dave Perry addressed this topic (Perry even wrote: “2014 is the year that “time-shifting” officially arrived”) from different angles – as a viewer and as a marketer, respectively.
Comcast has been focusing on expanding its VOD services for the past few years, realizing that it’s in their best interest to do so. A vast VOD library is a value-add for subscribers, and with cord-cutters and cord-nevers becoming a growing minority, VOD has become one of the reasons to subscribe to cable; at the very least, it’s a reason not to get rid of it.
Below is a list of the Top 20 Most-Viewed TV Series and Top 10 Latino Programs. We’re a TV blog, but we also included the Top 20 New Release Movie Titles and the Top 10 Music Videos to underscore how important VOD has become to the entertainment and content industry as a whole. For the TV space in particular, though, these 20 series are being wrapped up in the increasingly important Live +30 ratings, and is helping shows like ‘The Black List’ and ‘Chicago Fire’ stay on air.
