This is both a supervisory and hands-on position, gathering and
compiling news from a variety of outlets, including our television
news partners, the Internet and wire services, as well as traditional
news sources for publishing on the Web site, with an emphasis on
delivering breaking news accurately. Also supervises other staff
members on site and serves as liaison to station and IBS management.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Writes and edits materials for target audiences integrating
compelling and creative text, still images, audio and video-file
components, and links to relevant Internet resources into an
appealing and thoughtful online news package.

· Possesses online acumen to provide added value to reports
initially developed by broadcast reporters.

· Ensures accuracy of stories by double-checking any necessary facts
in assigned projects.

· Ensures that all edited text goes through necessary reviews.

· Checks art/text consistency for assigned projects.

· Proofreads all text in assigned projects. Represents editing
concerns on the teams for assigned projects.

· Provides editing support to other teams as needed.

· Participates in editing team activities and supports editing team
goals.

· Works with project teams to create and maintain own schedule.

· Responsible for the management of one to several non-news sections
or franchises as assigned.

· Provides additional guidance for other editors and writers.

· Plans for the long-term growth of the site, sets priorities and
plans coverage for major events.

· Thinks strategically about developing the site’s revenue
potential as well as its audience potential.

· Ability to work in a team setting, with broadcast partners, and
under tight deadlines is key.

· Ability to deliver integrated compelling news stories quickly and
accurately, using sound news judgment.

· Ability to prioritize, work independently, and manage simultaneous
assignments within an intense deadline-driven environment.

· Ability to effectively use strong analytical and problem-solving
skills.

· Ability to influence across the organization and work effectively
with all levels of management and staff.

· Knowledge of editing and AP stylebook standards.

· Ability to pass editing test.

· Ability to convey complex subject matter clearly and engagingly.

· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

· Ability to catch spelling errors without electronic assistance (on
hard copy).

· Skill in keying 60 wpm to meet deadlines for various projects.

· Ability to be flexible in schedule and adaptable to constant
change.

· Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and frequent
interruptions.

· Ability to work with a positive attitude.

· Ability to work well in a multitasking environment paying close
attention to details.

· Ability to supervise effectively.

· Ability to be effective ambassador to station personnel.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Four-year college degree; publishing, communications, English,
marketing, or related coursework preferred.

· Established journalistic track record.

· Familiarity with word processing software; Word preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Familiarity with AP style preferred. Working experience with a TV
station. Past supervisory experience helpful.
