Turner Broadcasting acquired a majority stake in iSTreamPlanet today. Turner plans to use their live event streaming technology to deliver its own OTT programming. Chairman and CEO John Martin said that they’ve worked with iStreamPlanet in the past for broadcasts of the PGA Championship and that:
This partnership will expand our capabilities to offer live events within and outside of the traditional ecosystem and, by bringing iStreamPlanet’s innovative technology in-house, allow us to cultivate future business opportunities on digital platforms
iStream has also worked on the Super Bowl in the past and partners with other media companies who use their multiplatform OTT service. While Turner’s acquired a majority stake, iStreamPlanet will remain independent and continue to work with other third party clients.
