The Midnight Club has been canceled at Netflix after one season.
The cancelation comes hours after executive producers Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy left their Netflix deal for an exclusive multiyear deal with Amazon Studios. The pair are behind some of the streamer’s most popular horror content including The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass.
The Midnight Club follows a group of terminally ill young adults in the Rotterdam Home hospice run by a mysterious doctor. They meet at midnight every night to tell each other scary stories. One night they make a pact that the first one to succumb to their disease is responsible for communicating with the others beyond the grave. After one of them dies, bizarre occurrences begin.
Season 1 premiered on Oct. 7, and the first episode set the world record for the most jump scares in a single TV episode.
The series spent three weeks in the Netflix Top 10. It debuted at No. 4 on the chart and received 18.8 million hours of viewing. It rose to No. 3 in week two with 49.9 million viewing hours. The series fell entirely off the list in week four after slipping back to No. 5 in its third week.
The drama starred Iman Benson, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Annarah Cymone, Chris Sumpter, Adia, Aya Furukawa, Sauriyan Sapkota, Matt Biedel, Samantha Sloyan, with Zach Gilford and Heather Langenkamp.
