Syfy’s Independent Content Hub for Sci-Fi Fans, Blastr, Continues to Grow

By Adam Flomenbaum

Even if you don’t enjoy all of Syfy’s programming, if you’re a sci-fi fan, you may still enjoy Blastr.com. While owned by Syfy, Blastr features independent sci-fi, fantasy, and horror content ranging from news and trailers to long form features (irregardless if it’s Syfy-related).

Site coverage, led by editor Adam Swiderski, includes writing from published authors and even super fans experts in ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Game of Thrones.’

With the covered genres moving more from niche to mainstream, Blastr is poised to capitalize. And in the first quarter of 2015, they did. The site averaged a record 1.5 million uniques, peaking in February with 1.6 million uniques.

As far as content marketing goes, Syfy has nailed it with Blastr. Some Syfy content is featured on the site, but only when it appeals to the site’s audience. The main goal, though, is to engage not just “Syfy” fans but “Sci-fi” fans no matter what shows, networks, or books they like.
