Social Scoreboard: Week of February 2

By Adam Flomenbaum

With a combination of big award shows, second half premieres, and mid-season debuts, last week brought a flurry of activity to Twitter. Last night’s GRAMMY Awards was a huge success: 13.4 million tweets were sent by 2.4 million unique authors. But not everyone was watching the GRAMMYs – especially ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘The Walking Dead’ die-hards. ‘The Walking Dead’ managed 746,000 tweets by 290,000 unique authors, while the ‘Better Call Saul’ series premiere generated 106,000 tweets by 68,000 unique authors.

‘The Walking Dead’ was the most social series in 2014, and it will undoubtedly maintain a Top 5 spot on the Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings chart. AMC also led a “Twitter Takeover” for the show’s return. 12 cast members took part in live-tweeting the show, with Andrew Lincoln answering fan questions from the official show handle. Live-tweeting has been shown to boost volume and build social audiences.
