Sling Adds Android TV and ESPN Deportes to Roster

By Karen Fratti

espnslingToday, Sling TV announced that it will be available on all the devices supported by the Android TV platform, including the Google Nexus Player. The announcement is a win-win for both Sling and Google, in that customers who sign up for three months of the OTT service can get the player at half price.

Always adding new channels, Sling’s is also adding ESPN Deportes to their Spanish language “Deportes Extra” package for an extra $5 a month. From the official statement, this means good things for soccer fans:

With this channel addition, our soccer fans now have access to popular content including UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, UEFA Europa League, La Liga’s Copa del Rey Final and Supercopa, select European FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, and the highly anticipated 2016 UEFA European Championship. Fans of U.S. professional sports can catch MLB, Monday Night Football, NFL Wildcard, NBA (including The Finals) and the College Football Playoff, among other top events.

Slowly but surely, Sling keeps adding enough platforms and content to its packages to make it interesting. It’s not everything, as we’ve written here before, a lot of the offerings in Sling’s package are already available to “savvy cord cutters.” What we should be looking out for are API partnerships with other OTTs, which would make scrapping a traditional cable package all the more attractive. By the time you finish with all the add-on packs, and suscribing to Netflix to stay up to date with Orange is the New Black this summer, it’s still not cheaper by any means. Especially if you want those UEFA games.
